By L. J. Furman
One night I had it all,
by morning it was gone.
Was called into a room
the man said kid you’re done.
this bright bold, theiving snake,
tried to take my dreams away.
‘ain’t personal’ he said
‘let’s do lunch some day’
(chorus)
I was stabbed in the back
shot right between the eyes
I looked for God above
I just saw cloudy skies
my kids still needed shoes
I got more dues to pay
the stash that I’d been holdin
used up that rainy day
her ma said leave that bum
but my girl just stood by me
said some day you’ll be back
where you’re supposed to be
(chorus)
I was stabbed in the back
shot right between the eyes
I looked for God above
I just saw cloudy skies
With a smile and crushing debt
I bought myself this cab,
swapped my desk fo this old rig
To take another stab
Put my shoulder to the wheel
Each truck stop is my own
I’m howling thru the night
And some times I sleep home
(chorus)
I pulled the blade out from my ribs
shot ‘em back between the eyes
I look for God above
Where I once saw cloudy skies
